Treatment of river water for the chemical industry using electrodialysis

Grupa Azoty Zakłady Chemiczne Police S.A., Poland

Treatment of river water for the chemical industry using electrodialysis

With the growing volume of fertilizer production, Grupa Azoty is facing a significant increase in the consumption of process water, which is of river origin.

MEGA installed EDR system to produce 640 m3/h of demineralized water with a minimum of 87% recovery. The system can respond to the current demand and produce different quantities of water at ratios of 80, 160, 240, 320, 400, 480, 560, and 640 m3/h. The brackish water treatment system operates 24/7, and the entire process can be treated without interrupting the production process. Chemical cleaning (CIP) is carried out approximately once every two months.

Production of ultrapure water for the pharmaceutical industry

Production of ultrapure water for the pharmaceutical industry

MEGA has designed and supplied a new ultrapure water treatment plant for a major international pharmaceutical company. The proposed solution consists of a combination of a three-stage RO with membranes with the highest solute capture and 2 EDI MPure™ 36 modules, which in this combination provide a system yield of 77%.

The entire production is automated and the design is built in a 1+1 arrangement to ensure continuous 24/7 operation in the so-called Pharma standard of ultrapure water production and distribution.

Zero Liquid Discharge Water Treatment EDR

ZSNP at Žiar nad Hronom, Slovakia

Desalination of tailing ponds after production of aluminium oxide

Slovak leading aluminium producer, ZSNP headed to the negative impact of its production activities. The feed water for the sludge bed has very high alkalinity (pH 13–14) and contains free NaOH, anions of OH-, CO3 2-, cations of Na+, K+, metals as Al (1 g/l), heavy metals Cr, As, Mo, V and some organic matters.

The typical electrodialysis mode Feed & Bleed has been chosen for this case. The membrane process design was done with emphasis on reaching the quality of desalinated water (6 g/l) and maximal concentration of brine (180 g/l). The fundamental advantages are in the flexibility of process control, allowing to obtain desired product quality and quantity.

High purity water system in Energy Usti nad Labem

ENERGY AT ÚSTÍ NAD LABEM, CZECHIA

Rehabilitation and upgrade of process water treatment plant using UPW

MEGA has supplied High Purity Water Treatment EDI units as a part of a novel membrane-only water treatment solution. The facility in the company ENERGY in Ústí nad Labem, Czech Republic, needed an upgrade after decades of heavy duty.

Ultrafiltration, reverse osmosis and EDI units were selected to process river water into ultrapure water. MPure™ EDI by MEGA has proven to be able to operate in demanding conditions with high CO2 level, cope with differences in input feed and steadily provide the heating facility with ultrapure water with 16 MΩ resistivity. Contact us below to find out how a similar solution can help your business.

Water treatment from the uranium mining industry

GEAM at Dolní Rožínka, Czechia

Water treatment from the uranium mining industry

Between 1957 and 2016, the GEAM Dolní Rožínka spin-off plant produced 20,220 tonnes of uranium, which was subsequently processed in the Chemical Processing Plant. To eliminate negative environmental impacts, it was necessary to implement closed-cycle process water treatment technology in the Chemical Treatment Plant, as well as water collection in the tailings ponds, both of which contain high levels of organic and inorganic compounds (TDS 34 g/l, SO42- 21.6 g/l).

MEGA has been the supplier of electrodialysis technology since the beginning of the remediation works, which, in cooperation with RO, eliminates the negative impact of uranium ore mining and processing. The desalted stream is discharged into the river after pH control. The remaining concentrate is evaporated to the final commercial product - pure Na2SO4.

Modernization of process water treatment plant using high purity water

Termozipa at Tocancipa, Colombia

Modernization of process water treatment plant using high purity water

MEGA has supplied continuous electrodeionization RALEX® HPWU as a part of a new process water treatment plant in the coal power plant TERMOZIPA in Colombia.

Due to the current outdated and unsatisfactory solution of the process water treatment, which could no longer process the required water capacity, TERMOZIPA has decided to build up a completely new water treatment plant. MPure-EDI from MEGA was selected to achieve ultrapure water as a part of the pretreatment system, along with ultrafiltration and reverse osmosis technology. MEGA UPW technology ensures the continuous quality of the ultrapure water with 18 MΩ resistivity.
